Langtang Valley Trek
Langtang Valley trek is towards the north of the Kathmandu Valley and just south of the Tibetan boarder. It is sandwiched between the main Himalayan range to the north and a slightly lower range of snowy peaks to the south. To the west of Langtang is Ganesh Himal with a range of 6,000 to 7,000 meters. The northern parts of the area largely fall within the boundaries of Langtang National Park. The main ethnic groups here are Sherpa and Tamang whose religious practices, languages and dress are much similar to those of Tibet. A visit to the Langtang Valley trekking offers an opportunity to explore villages, climb small peaks and visit glaciers at a comfortably low elevation. The forests in this region have temperate and sub- alpine vegetation. Wildlife includes migratory birds, deer, monkeys, Thar, and Pika. The scenery here is spectacular and the trekking is more adventurous. Langtang trekking is also called “the valley of glaciers trek”. Langtang is the closet place where you could get the massive snow capped mountains and beautiful glaciers. This valley is located only 19 miles north of Kathmandu. The whole valley is dominated by Mount Langtang Lirung (7246m) and offers pine forest, swift mountain streams, rugged rock and snow-capped peaks, grassy down and meadows. You visit ancient Buddhist monastery and glaciers. Here you stay one more day on next day you get an opportunity to ascend Kyangjin Ri 4350m. From its top you will get 360 degree mountain views. From Kyangjin, you retrace your route back down the valley to Syabru Besi and then drive back to Kathmandu.

A free day to explore in the Kathmandu Valley. Our tour guide introduces as following Options: Climb the many steps to Swayambhunath (the monkey temple), with its commanding views of Kathmandu (1420m), its whitewashed Stupas and its unique synthesis of Buddhism and Hinduism. The striking Buddha eyes of Boudhanath Stupa watch over a lively and colorful Tibetan community and attract pilgrims from all over the Himalayan Buddhist realm. In the midst of traditional Gompas, and hung with long strings of multi-colored prayer flags, Boudhanath attracts Sherpas, Tibetans and tourists alike for daily circumambulations (Koras) of the Stupa. Durbar Square, one of the old capitals of the Kathmandu valley, is a synthesis of Hindu and Buddhist temples, stupas and statues, and is often the site of festivals, marriages and other ceremonies. Hindu Pashupatinath and its sacred temple complex on the banks of the holy Bagmati River. Here, monkeys run up and down the steps of the burning ghats, and trident-bearing saddhus draped in burnt-orange and saffron sit serenely meditating – when they’re not posing for photos-for-rupees. Stay overnight in Hotel.
After an early breakfast we drive north from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. Parts of the road are unsealed and the condition of the road often depends upon the monsoon season. We will travel via Trisuli Bazaar where the dam and hydroelectric project was completed by the Indian Technical Mission. Finally we drive on to Syabrubesi where we will make final preparations for our trek. Stay overnight at Lodge.
We cross through the village of Syabrubesi crossing over several suspension bridges and ascend to the Langtang Kola. Slowly the trail climbs gently through the forest with the river flowing beside us. The forest becomes sparser and drier on this side of the river, consisting mainly of scrub oaks and nettles. Finally we climb steeply on a good trail to Rimche and on to our lodge in Lama Hotel. Stay overnight at Lodge.
We continue to follow the Langtang Khola climbing steeply through hemlocks, oaks, maples and rhododendron forest to the national park checkpoint at Ghora Tabela (2970m). Beautiful views of Langtang Lirung (7225m) can be seen from here. The trail ascends gradually, as the valley becomes wider and we pass many mani stones, water-driven prayer wheels and scattered Tamang villages before arriving in Langtang village. Stay overnight at Lodge.
Passing through the village of Langtang we climb gradually past yak pastures and the small villages of Mumdu and Sindum. After crossing a wooden cantilever bridge over Langtang Khola, we reach a wider valley scattered with large boulders to a moraine. Here we gain the first views of Kyanjin Gompa and the dramatic icefall flowing from Langtang Lirung and Langtang Kinshung (6781m) to the north. Our route weaves through large boulders before a short descent to Kyanjin Gompa. Stay overnight at Lodge.
