Gokyo and Everest Base Camp via Cho La Pass offers a beautiful journey through the Everest Region consisting of glacial lakes, high Sherpa settlements, and astounding mountain vistas all at the foot of the world’s tallest mountain Mount Everest (8848m). Gokyo and Everest Base Camp offers the combination of nature, adventure and interactions with distinct mountain culture all in one place.
The 17 day’s journey starts with a scenic flight to Lukla. From here the trek begins into the heart of the Sherpa community. Sherpa villages like Phakding and Namche Bazaar are famous tourist hubs in the Khumbu valley, along with smaller and more traditional settlements such as Dhole, Gokyo, Gokyo Ri, Gorakshep offer visitors unsurpassed exchanges with this ethnically distinct group. The famous and largest monastery or gompa is Tengboche monastery and is a must on this trek. Kala Patthar and the final destination Everest Base Camp are just two celebrated parts of this incredible adventure. Views of the beautiful turquoise lakes in the Gokyo Valley and Everest Base Camp via Cho La Pass (5420m) are breathtaking and unique to this ecoregion of Nepal. The close view of Mount Everest (8848m) seen from Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar is beyond memorable scenic sites. The major mountains seen during this trek are Cho Oyu (8188m), Makalu (8463m), Lhotse (8414 m) and Everest (8848m). All of this magnificence is located inside the Sagarmatha National Park which reflects the wide variety of flora and fauna found in the Himalayan region. This trek is also named the Everest Circuit Trek as it consists of trekking to Everest Base Camp along with other parts of the Khumbu region.

After landing and clearing immigration at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be greeted by one of our staff and transferred to your pre-arranged hotel in Thamel. If you require assistance they can show you shops, ATMs and cash exchange counters for your convenience. Stay overnight at the Thamel.
Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla 2840m and trek to Phakding 2610m/3 hours
After a good night’s rest from your travels, and breakfast, we will drive back to Tribhuvan International Airport and board a flight to Lukla. The scenic flight of around 30 minutes will take us to Lukla a small town in the high green hills at the foot of the Himalayas. From here we will trek to Phakding. The descending trail passes through many villages like Chaunrikharaka (2580m), and fields and forests leading us to the banks of Dudh Koshi River. After crossing the river, the trail finally opens to a wide field of barley and potatoes leading us Phakding. Stay overnight at Phakding.
Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar 3440m/5 hours
Today we will head to Namche Bazaar. The trail ascends from the Dudh Koshi River, passing through dense forests of Fir and pine. Along the way are small Sherpa villages. Bengkar (2630m), Chhamuwa (2760m), Monjo (2835m), Jorsalle (2740m) are a few the trail meanders through. Monjo is the entry point for Sagarmatha National Park and our guide will facilitate entry to the park. This national park serves and protects a very special ecosystem endemic to this part of the Himalayas. From Monjo, the trails gradually ascend leading into the heart of Khumbu region, Namche Bazaar, from where we can get a clear view of Everest (8848m), Ama Dablam (6856m) and Kongde Ri (6168m). Stay overnight at Namche Bazaar.
Acclimatization day at Namche Bazaar and hike to Everest View Hotel and Khumjung/Khunde village
Namche Bazaar is a famous place to acclimatize to this region. Today we explore Namche Bazaar and visit the places in and around this bustling village. Our exploration will start by visiting the Sherpa Culture Museum. We will hike to Syangboche airport, the highest airport in the world from there we will continue to Khunde village. Here we will visit Khunde Hillary Hospital and then, we will also visit the Khumjung village which is the largest settlement of Sherpa’s in this region. It is one of the most beautiful villages lying in the lap of Nature. The hike descends down towards Everest View Hotel and we can get beautiful glimpses of high mountains from here. We will return back to Namche Bazaar and then overnight at a hotel in Namche Bazaar.
Trek from Namche Bazaar to Dhole 4200m/6 hours
Today we will trek to Dole from Namche Bazaar. After having our breakfast we will head towards Dole. The trail continues to ascend through dense rhododendron and oak forests. We will reach Dole after a roughly six-hour day of hiking which is 4200 m above sea-level. The view from Dole is beautiful and we will spend our night in a cozy lodge in Dole.
Trek from Dole to Machhermo 4470m/5 hours
We will start our trek to Machhermo ascending a slightly more inclined trail leading us to Luza. We can get the beautiful panoramic view of Mt. Cholatse (6335m) and Tabuche Peak (6367m). The views are magnificent and we will climb up to the river settlement called Machhermo. Machhermo is situated at the junction of two beautiful glacial streams. A rescue hospital is also established here for primary treatments. Stay overnight at a lodge in Machhermo.
Trek from Machhermo to Gokyo 4790m/6 hours
On this day we will climb a bit further to Gokyo from Machhermo. Through the whole trek, we can enjoy the magnificent views of the mighty Himalayas. The trail first leads to Phangga. Afterward, the trek becomes a bit more challenging and adventurous. We will pass the Ngozumpa glacier and the lakes like Longpongo (4720m) and Taujung Tsho (4740m). Stay overnight at Gokyo.
Ascent of Gokyo Ri 5360m and trek to Thangnak 4700m/3 hours
In the early morning, we will ascend towards Gokyo Ri. On the way, we will visit the turquoise Gokyo Lake which is truly mesmerizing. Continuing on, the trail towards Gokyo Ri is the perfect viewpoint for Mt. Everest (8848m) and Makalu (8463m). We can also see the rivers flowing from Gokyo and the elongated Ngozumpa glacier. We will come back to Gokyo have lunch and will head towards Thangnak. On our way to Thagnak, we can see the majestic views of Mt. Cho Oyu (8188m), Mt. Cholo (6089m), Mt. Kangchung (6063m) and other peaks. Finally, we will reach to Thangnak and then overnight at Thangnak.
Trek from Thangnak to Dzongla 4830m/6 hours traverse Cross Cho La 5420m
On this day, we will reach the highest point on this trekking route. From Thangnak the steep ascending trail wanders up through rough rocky terrain but will reward us with another beautiful view of the Khumbu region. This step climb will lead us to Cho La Pass which is situated at 5420m from sea level. We can enjoy the view of Mt. Ama Dablam (6856m) and Mt. Cholatse (6335m). The trail will undulate throughout the day finally taking us to today’s destination Dzongla. Upon reaching Dzongla, we will visit the settlement, enjoy a hearty meal and then overnight at Dzongla.
Trek from Dzongla to Lobuche 4910m/5 hours
On this day we will trek to Lobuche from Dzongla. A short and easy walk will lead us to our destination Lobuche. Passing through Dughla and Thokla Pass along with beautiful surroundings will help ease the uphill challenge. We will pass many rivers and forests on the way to Lobuche. Stay overnight at Lobuche.
Trek from Lobuche to Gorakshep 5140m & explore to Everest Base Camp 5364m/8 hours
The trek becomes a little more challenging today. We have to ascend steeply through rocky moraines from the glaciers that surround us, all the while enjoying the views some of the world’s tallest Himalayas mountains leading us Gorakshep at the height of 5140 m. We will have our lunch and take a much-deserved rest before ascending to Everest Base Camp. Though the trail continues to feel steep, we will be handsomely rewarded with views of all the mountains’ majesty. After spending some time there we will descend back to Gorakshep and then overnight at Gorakshep.
Hike to Kala Patthar 5550m & trek to Dingboche 4410m/6 hours
Today we will hike to Kala Patthar, which is also one of the best viewpoints of the Khumbu region. Kala Patthar is a black knoll in an otherwise gray and white landscape. A slow and steady pace makes for an easier hike to the top and once there we can see Mt. Cho Oyu (8188m), Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8414m), Makalu (8463m), Nuptse (7861m), Ama Dablam (6856m) and Pumo Ri (7165m). We can also see the famous Khumbu glacier from Kala Pathar. Returning the same way we ascended will bring us back to Gorakshep. We’ll have lunch and descend to Dingboche. Stay overnight at Dingboche.
Trek from Dingboche to Tengboche 3860m/5 hours
The descent passes through dense forests and beautiful villages such as Somare, Pangboche, and Deboche which eventually leads us to Tengboche. We will visit the oldest and the largest monastery of Khumbu region situated at Tengboche named as Tengboche monastery. We will visit the village and view the activities of the local people.
Trek from Tengboche to Namche 3440m/5 hours
From Tengboche, we will descend back towards Namche Bazaar. The descent will be lighted by the new perspective on the scenery as we head down to the Dudh Koshi River and take us to Namche Bazaar. Stay overnight in Namche Bazaar at a hotel or a lodge.
Trek from Namche to Lukla 2840m/6 hours
Today we will climb downhill through the dense forests and fields across the banks of Dudh Koshi River. On crossing several Sherpa settlements and suspension bridges we will reach Lukla. We will stay at a hotel in Lukla. Today will be the last day of this great adventure.
Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu 25 minutes and transfer to Hotel.
From Lukla, we will catch our flight to Kathmandu, which takes about 25 minutes. On reaching Tribhuvan International Airport we will transfer you to the hotel in Thamel and then overnight at the hotel in Thamel.
Final Departure from Kathmandu
On this day we will drive you back to the Tribhuvan International Airport for your scheduled departure.
